"Auto 1 Innovation Award" für BMW Efficient Dynamic

(Hamburg, 6. März 2008) Leser, Motorjournalisten, Techniker und Rennfahrer haben entschieden: Der Audi A4 ist das "Auto 1 von Europa" des Jahres 2008. Zum 17. Mal hat die AUTO BILD-Gruppe in Europas größter Leser- und Expertenwahl den Gesamtsieger aller Neuerscheinungen ermittelt. Sieger ist der Audi A4. Dr. Andreas Wiele, Vorstand BILD-Gruppe und Zeitschriften der Axel Springer AG, überreichte den Preis am Abend, 5. März 2008, an Rupert Stadler, Vorstandsvorsitzender Audi AG. Der Preis wurde traditionell auf einer Gala im Rahmen des 78. Genfer Automobilsalons vor mehr als 450 prominenten Gästen aus Wirtschaft, Medien und Motorsport verliehen.

Europas größte Leser- und Expertenwahl

Rund 40 Millionen Leser der internationalen AUTO BILD-Gruppe waren in 26 Ländern Europas aufgerufen, die besten automobilen Neuerscheinungen in ihren Märkten zu wählen. (siehe Tabelle) Neben den Landessiegern galt es auch die Favoriten in insgesamt sechs Fahrzeugklassen zu küren. Die drei besten Modelle jeder Klasse traten dann zum Halbfinale auf dem Bridgestone European Proving Ground bei Rom gegeneinander an, wo sie sich einer Jury – bestehend aus 26 Chefredakteuren, neun Rennfahrern und acht Autotechnikern – stellen mussten. Aus den sechs Klassensiegern galt es dann, den Favoriten der 26 Chefredakteure europäischer AUTO BILD-Titel zu wählen. Die Wahl das Audi A4 als "Auto 1 von Europa" fand live auf der Bühne der Halle Sécheron in Genf statt.

"Gemeinsam mit rund 40 Millionen Lesern in 26 Ländern geben Motorjournalisten der AUTO BILD-Gruppe und Autoexperten ein klares Meinungs- und Stimmungsbild zu den Neuerscheinungen des Vorjahres ab", sagt Bernd Wieland, Chefredakteur von AUTO BILD Deutschland. "Nicht umsonst wird die Bekanntgabe des "Auto 1 von Europa" von den Herstellern jedes Jahr mit Spannung erwartet."

BMWs Efficient Dynamics mit Innovationspreis ausgezeichnet Außer den Trophäen für die Neuerscheinungen vergab die AUTO BILD-Gruppe bereits zum elften Mal den "Auto 1 Innovation Award", den Preis für die beste technische Neuentwicklung des Jahres. Preisträger 2008 ist BMW für sein spritsparendes und damit umweltschonendes System Efficient Dynamics. Durch den Einsatz neuer Materialien im Motoren- und Karosseriebau und einem verbesserten Energiemanagement durch effizientere Motoren und alternative Antriebskonzepte, verspricht Efficient Dynamics eine Reduzierung von Gewicht und Verbrauch bei gleichbleibendem Fahrspaß. Den Preis nahm Dr. Klaus Draeger, Entwicklungsvorstand der BMW AG, entgegen.

The AUTO BILD Group presents international award for the 17th time / "Auto 1 Innovation Award" goes to BMW"s Efficient Dynamics

Readers, automotive journalists, engineers and race drivers have made their decision: the Audi A4 is the 2008 "Auto 1 of Europe". For the 17th time the AUTO BILD Group conducted Europe"s biggest reader and expert poll to come up with an overall winner from all recent new models. Dr. Andreas Wiele, Member of the Board of Axel Springer AG, presented the award at the evening of March 5, 2008, to Rupert Stadler, CEO Audi AG. The presentation ceremony was held at the 78th Geneva Motor Show before an audience of more than 450 prominent personalities from industry, media and motor sport.

Biggest European poll of readers and experts

About 40 million readers of the international AUTO BILD Group from 26 European countries were asked to nominate the best new models to appear in their country. In addition to the national champions the voters were asked to nominate their favourites in six different categories. The top three models for each category (see table) then had to face off against each other in a semi-final showdown at the Bridgestone European Proving Ground in Rome under the critical gaze of an expert panel consisting of 26 editors-in-chief, nine race drivers and eight automotive engineers. The winner of each of the six categories went into the final. The 26 editors-in-chief of the AUTO BILD Group were given the job of choosing an overall champion from the category winners. The announcement of Audi A4 as "Auto 1 if Europe" took place live on stage at the La Halle Sécheron in Geneva.

"Together with some 40 million readers in 26 countries, automotive journalists from the AUTO BILD Group along with motoring experts are painting a clear picture of the newest models in 2007," said Bernd Wieland, editor-in-chief of AUTO BILD Germany. "It"s for a good reason that the announcement of "Auto 1 of Europe" is awaited with bated breath every year by the carmakers."

Innovation Award for BMW"s Efficient Dynamics

As well as the awards for the latest vehicles, the AUTO BILD Group presented its 11th Innovation Award for the best new technical development of the year. This year"s prize went to BMW for its fuel-saving and environmentally friendly Efficient Dynamics. The system promises to reduce weight and consumption while still maintaining driving enjoyment by implementing new materials in the construction of the motor and car body, and by improving energy management through more efficient motors and alternative drive principles. The award was accepted by Dr. Klaus Draeger BMW board member responsible for Research, Development and Purchasing.
