Auto 1-Innovationspreis für "Advanced Pre Crash Safety System" des LEXUS LS 460

(Hamburg, 8. März 2007) Die internationale AUTO BILD-Gruppe vergibt zum 16. Mal den wichtigsten europäischen Autopreis: Der Ford S-Max ist das diesjährige "Auto 1 von Europa". Rund 35 Millionen AUTO BILD-Leser aus 24 Ländern und eine Expertenjury – bestehend aus Rennfahrern, Motorjournalisten und Technikern – haben sich nach der größten Leserwahl Europas und aufwendigen Tests für den neuen Sportvan entschieden.

Dr. Andreas Wiele, Vorstand Zeitschriften und Internationales der Axel Springer AG, überreichte die begehrte Trophäe gestern Abend, 7. März 2007, an John Fleming, President und CEO Ford Europe. Die feierliche Preisverleihung fand traditionell im Rahmen des 77. Genfer Automobilsalons vor mehr als 500 Prominenten aus Wirtschaft, Medien und Motorsport statt.

Erstmals vergab die internationale AUTO BILD-Gruppe zusätzlich sechs weitere Trophäen für unterschiedliche Fahrzeugklassen. Die Gewinner sind:

Klein- und Kompaktfahrzeug:
Volvo C30 (vor Opel Corsa und Skoda Roomster)

Limousine und Kombi:
Lexus GS 450 H (vor Honda Legend und Volvo S80)

Off-Road und SUV:
BMW X5 (vor Audi Allroad und Hyundai Santa Fe

Mini Van und MPV:
Ford S-Max (vor Citroen C4 Picasso und Seat Altea XL)

Sportwagen und Coupé:
BMW 3er Coupé (vor Audi TT Coupé und Ferrari 599 GTB)

Cabrio und Roadster:
VW Eos (vor Alfa Spider und Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder)

Innovationspreis 2007 für "Advanced Pre Crash Safety System" des LEXUS LS 460

Neben den Auszeichnungen für die automobilen Neuerscheinungen vergab die AUTO BILD-Gruppe bereits zum 10. Mal den Innovationspreis für die beste technische Neuentwicklung des Jahres. Die Auszeichnung ging an das "Advanced Pre Crash Safety System" des LEXUS LS 460. Das Sicherheitssystem verfügt über eine spezielle Infrarot-Stereokamera, um Gefahren frühzeitig zu erkennen. Eine dazugehörige Infrarot-Gesichtsfelderkennung kann außerdem prüfen, ob der Fahrer in kritischen Situationen nach vorne blickt. Im Notfall wird bei einer drohenden Kollision selbsttätig eine Bremsaktion mit bis zu 0,6 g eingeleitet. Ebenfalls neu ist ein Radarsensor im Heck, der vor einem drohenden Heckaufprall durch ein sich schnell näherndes Fahrzeug warnt. Registriert das System Gefahr, werden die aktiven Kopfstützen in Position gebracht und die Sicherheitsgurte gestrafft.

"Auto 1 von Europa": Größte europäische Leser- und Expertenwahl

Die Wahl zum "Auto 1 von Europa" basiert auf der größten Leserwahl Europas: Zunächst wurden die Neuerscheinungen aus 2006 (Kriterium: Einführung in ganz Europa) in sechs Kategorien eingeteilt. Diese mussten sich dann rund 35 Millionen AUTO BILD- Lesern aus 24 Ländern stellen. Die Leser wählten ihren Landesfavoriten und den Favoriten in jeder Fahrzeugkategorie. Die Top 3 in jeder Kategorie durften zum Halbfinale nach Rom. Dort wurden die Nominierten von der Experten-Jury auf dem Bridgestone-Gelände getestet. Die Jury bestand aus hochkarätigen Rennfahrern, erfahrenden Technikern und allen Chefredakteuren der europäischen AUTO BILD-Gruppe. Die Erstplazierten aus den sechs Kategorien kamen in die Endausscheidung. Das große Wahl-Finale fand live auf der Bühne in Genf statt: Die 24 Chefredakteure stimmten unabhängig voneinander per Knopfdruck in der La Halle Sécheron für ihren Favoriten. Dabei erhielt der Ford S-Max die meisten Stimmen.

Auto1 Innovation Prize for "Advanced Pre Crash Safety System" in LEXUS LS 460

The international AUTO BILD Group presents Europe"s most important car award for the 16th time: this year"s "Auto 1 of Europe" is the Ford S-Max. Following the biggest reader poll in Europe and extensive tests, some 35 million AUTO BILD readers in 24 countries plus an expert panel of judges – consisting of racing drivers, motoring journalists and engineers – decided in favor of the new sport van.

Dr. Andreas Wiele, Board Director for Magazines and International at Axel Springer AG, presented the coveted trophy yesterday evening, March 7, 2007 to John Fleming, President und CEO Ford Europe. By tradition, the presentation ceremony was held during the 77th Geneva Motor Show before an audience of more than 500 prominent personalities from industry, media and motor sport.

For the first time the AUTO BILD Group also awarded six trophies for individual vehicle categories. The winners are:

Innovation Prize 2007 for "Advanced Pre Crash Safety System" in LEXUS LS 460

As well as the awards for the latest cars, the AUTO BILD Group presented the 10th Innovation Prize for the best new technical development of the year. The award went to the "Advanced Pre Crash Safety System" in the LEXUS LS 460. This safety system has a special infrared stereo camera for early detection of dangers. What"s more, an associated infrared face field recognition system can check whether the driver is looking ahead in critical situations. In an emergency, the car will brake automatically with a force of up to 0.6 g if a collision threatens. Another new feature is the radar sensor at the rear which gives warning of imminent impact if a following vehicle is approaching too fast. If the system registers danger, it positions the active head restraints and tightens the safety belts.

"Auto 1 of Europe": biggest European poll of readers and experts

The choice of the "Auto 1 of Europe" is based on the biggest reader poll in Europe: first the new 2006 models (criterion: launch throughout Europe) were divided into six categories. They were then voted on by some 35 million AUTO BILD readers in 24 countries. The readers chose their overall national favorite and the favorites in each vehicle category. The Top 3 in each category went into the semi-final in Rome, where the panel of experts tested them on the Bridgestone testing ground. The judges comprised high-caliber racing drivers, experienced engineers and all the editors-in-chief of the AUTO BILD Group. The first in each of the six categories went into the final. The grand final took place live on stage in Geneva: the 24 editors-in-chief in La Halle Sécheron each pressed a button to cast their independent vote for their favorite. The most votes went to the Ford S-Max.
